China 2013 ❤ 厦门 (Xiamen), Pt I

Hey, All! 

It's crazy to think that around this time last year I had just come home from one of my most memorable experiences: my INCREDIBLE trip to China! As such, I figured it was time to find some internet and actually WRITE one of these long-overdue posts.

I bet you thought i wouldn't actually get one of these posts done!

I don't blame you...I didn't think I would either.... haha~ Yay for us being wrong! 

Anyway, rather than go back and write a painstaking entry for every day of my trip, I decided to do 'broad categories' based on locations I got to visit. Some of these entries may be divided into multiple parts given the extent of activities we got to do. In Xi'an, for example, we did much more site-seeing than when we were studying in a classroom setting everyday in Xiamen. We'll see how it goes as these entries slowly trickle along. ;)

China 2013: Xiamen

PART 1

Xiamen is a beautiful island along the Southern coast of China. It is most famous for being a "honeymoon" and wedding photography capital, as well as a comparative "Hawaii" for its warm weather, gorgeous beaches, and wonderful locals.

While there, we stayed at Xiamen University, one of the top-10 most beautiful campuses in China. It's understandable to see why!

 


To pass the time between classes, we all enjoyed doing a variety of things in Xiamen.

The campus itself was right next to a gorgeous beach--rumored to be one of the only clean ones in China. xD

Along this beach there was a relaxing boardwalk that proved to be a great place for strolls and picture-taking.

If not on the beach, there were still pleeeenty of other places to explore!
One of these places included an old railway station that had been converted into a park after it stopped operating.






Another discovery some of my wonderful classmates and I made was a memorial for a skirmish between Xiamen and Taiwan. It was set up in honor of soldiers from Xiamen who had lost their lives in the fight.

While there, some of us met the granddaughter of one of the victims, who told us about how her grandfather died. His remains are kept at the memorial to this day.









There are certainly many, MANY more adventures and places and wonderful people to share from Xiamen alone, but unfortunately this shall have to suffice for today. ;)

Hopefully I can at least make a weekly China post a week until I manage to complete photo posts for each location!
